One brick at a time
Every project of the Susy Fehr – ZooCARE Foundation stems from a real need.
No one can exist without the support of those who believe in them. That’s what we’re building.
The flagship program
Bringing Species Back to Color
Our most ambitious commitment to endangered species.

Conservation Program
Bringing Species Back to Color Program
Our conservation program for four endangered species: ring-tailed lemurs, gibbons, snow leopards, and African penguins.
The Projects
What We’re Building
Seven concrete projects to ensure the zoo has a future that lives up to its mission.
Leoni Project
Complete renovation of the lion enclosure. A larger enclosure, new viewing areas, and a cave open to the public with glass panels for observing the lions from below. Educational materials on real threats: habitat loss, poaching, and conflicts with local communities.
Zoo-Pet Project
A veterinary service for local pets. A clinic dedicated to dogs, parrots, and small mammals, integrated with the zoo. Those who care for their pets also learn to respect wild animals.
BioZoo Project
The zoo serves as a center for monitoring local wildlife, with a special focus on the endangered amphibians of Ticino. It features a covered area for controlled breeding and reproduction, a naturalized pond for reintroduction, and tools for monitoring wild species in the region.
EduZoo Project
Three indoor, fully equipped classrooms, one for each continent: Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Conservation workshops, activities for schools, and spaces that can be integrated into local school curricula.
MuZoo Project
A museum inside the zoo. Permanent exhibits organized by continent, interactive and multimedia installations, and in-depth information on conservation. The zoo becomes a cultural hub open year-round.
Zoo Academy Project
A program for young people who want to work with animals. Hands-on experience working alongside staff as keepers and trainers, courses on animal training, environmental enrichment, and the study of animal behavior. Hands-on workshops, constant supervision, and a certificate upon completion.
Zoo Research Network Project
Collaborations with local universities: internships, work placements, and thesis projects on animal behavior and welfare. The results improve species management and provide content for visitors.
