White-handed Gibbon

The species

Who they are

Gibbons move by brachiation: they swing from one branch to another using their arms, without touching the ground, covering considerable distances in just a few seconds. They live in stable pairs and sing in duets: a call that serves to mark their territory and can be heard from a great distance.

The species is endangered due to the destruction of the tropical forest. The zoo’s development plan calls for an expanded area, featuring an elevated observation platform from which visitors can watch the gibbons at their own eye level.

Come and meet them
